Verla Ruth
Horton
Jun 30, 1934 — Oct 2, 2025
With hearts full of love and cherished memories, we announce the peaceful passing of Verla Ruth (Reese) Horton, affectionately known as Ruth, on October 2, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on June 30, 1934, in Flat River, Missouri, to the late Verla and Joel Reese, Ruth's journey through life was marked by her unwavering faith, her creative spirit, and her thoughtful nature. Ruth graduated from Elvins High School in 1952, was a member of Eastern Star Lodge #260, and was a member of Elvins Baptist Church. Her devotion to Christianity guided her every step, and she lived her life as a testament to her faith. Throughout her life, Ruth found joy and solace in her many interests. She enjoyed playing the piano and was an accomplished artist, winning many awards for her oil paintings. Her hands were rarely still as she created exquisite needlework, ceramics, and oil paintings, each piece a reflection of her love for beauty and meticulous craftsmanship. Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband, Walter Horton, with whom she shared over fifty years. She also joins her dear mother Verla, father Joel, brother Lloyd, sister Helen and step-son Marvin in eternal rest. Ruth's memory will be forever cherished by her loving daughter, Sharon Lucas; step-children, Kathryn Swim, Aldean Wilkerson, Eugene Horton, and Marie Gross and their spouses; along with her three grandsons, ten step-grandchildren, three great granddaughters and many step-great grandchildren who brought immense joy and pride to her life. As we bid farewell to Ruth, we take comfort in knowing that she lived a full and meaningful life. Her faith-filled presence, creative essence, and thoughtful demeanor will be profoundly missed, yet her spirit will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know her. We celebrate Ruth's journey to her heavenly home, confident that she is now at peace in the loving arms of her Creator.
